An extraordinary 18th-century Dutch oak trunk, signed and dated “Jahn Mertin c.1722,” its surface alive with the hand of its maker. The front is a symphony of chip-carved rosettes—some large and radiant, others tightly knotted and intricate—each catching light in a way that feels almost architectural. Heavy wrought iron strap hinges frame the lid, paired with the original lock (its key, sadly, lost to time), lending the piece a sense of gravitas and permanence.
