Early/Mid-20th Century French Leather Mailbag

Early/Mid-20th Century French Leather Mailbag

$2,400.00

We found it in Paris, tucked into a stall at the Puces, the leather already burnished by decades of dispatches and distance. An early to mid-20th century French mailbag, built for utility but possessed of undeniable romance.

The leather is the color of strong cognac, creased, weathered, impossibly supple. A shield-shaped patch crowns the front like a quiet insignia; the 4" rolled leather handles arch with confidence, shaped by countless hands. There are scuffs, water stains, and tonal shifts that no atelier could convincingly reproduce, evidence not of wear, but of witness.

We have carried it across continents. It has slid beneath train seats, rested in overhead bins, hung elegantly in hotel rooms. It is perfectly scaled for an overnight escape or a disciplined long-haul carry-on, generous, but never cumbersome.

Like all well-traveled companions, it understands departure. Now ready to log its next itinerary, its next passport stamp, its next life in motion.
