Vintage Hammered Brass English Setter Weathervane
There is a particular romance to the sporting life that has very little to do with the hunt itself. It is the anticipation of an autumn morning. Wet grass underfoot. A well-worn jacket. The sound of a dog working somewhere just ahead, until suddenly everything becomes still. That moment is captured here.
An American folk art weathervane, hammered by hand in brass, its English Setter is caught eternally on point; body stretched forward, tail held straight, every ounce of attention fixed on something just beyond our view. Time has softened the brass and given its surface the sort of patina that cannot be hurried or convincingly reproduced.
Once double-sided, a single face now remains, revealing the old supporting armature behind it and lending the piece the character of something rescued rather than restored. A simple wire allows it to hang.
A relic of field, weather, and another American autumn still waiting for the bird to rise.
