19th Century English Painted Upland Hunt Still Life Panel

19th Century English Painted Upland Hunt Still Life Panel

$3,800.00

We bought it in England because it had presence. Two grouse. One duck. No fussy landscape, no theatrics—just the spoils of a successful hunt, painted with quiet confidence. It felt decisive. Masculine. Complete.

Then we started looking closer.

The panel has a slight bow. The edges are mitered, clearly meant to slide into something larger. In the lower right, a painted signature. At the top, engraved almost discreetly: “T R.” Top Right. That’s when it clicked. This wasn’t just a sporting picture—it was part of a cabinet likely from a hunting lodge, one fragment of a larger architectural story long since separated.

And that realization made the find even better.

So now it hangs on its own, liberated. Part sporting art, part detective story. The birds may be the spoils of the hunt—but finding the panel? That was ours.
