Early 20th Century American Side Table

Early 20th Century American Side Table

$2,800.00

Found in Northern Wisconsin, this early 20th-century American pine square table carries the quiet authority of the Northwoods. You can almost hear the screen door slap and the low hum of cicadas. It may have begun life as a games table, cards slapped down, coins stacked high, or perhaps as a modest breakfast perch for strong coffee and colder mornings.

Its design is honest and unfussy: four square legs, their edges chamfered and softened by hand, splay ever so slightly as if bracing against a cabin floor worn smooth by wool socks and wet boots. Matching chamfered cross stretchers tether the legs together with understated geometry.

But it is the patina that arrests you. Decades of use have deepened the wood to a mellow, burnished tone no artisan could convincingly fake. The surface tells its own quiet stories. Placed beside a pair of armchairs or anchoring a small room, it does not shout; it records memories.
