The English country house has always understood something the rest of the world occasionally forgets: comfort is a luxury, and a good chair should encourage you to stay a little longer than intended. Howard & Sons built an empire on that very notion, furnishing Britain's finest drawing rooms with chairs as generous in proportion as they were in hospitality.
This handsome armchair takes its cues from that tradition, with a broad, inviting seat, gently reclining back, and beautifully turned legs. Though of more recent manufacture, we've given it a rather splendid new wardrobe. A chunky, richly textured ottoman weave covers the back, while supple caramel leather dresses the seat and gracefully curved arms. Brass nailheads finish the whole affair with just enough polish.
It's the sort of chair that makes a compelling argument for canceling one's afternoon engagements. Preferably with a good book and a rather stiff drink.
