These early 20th-century Queen Anne Revival armchairs have the swagger of something pulled from an Edwardian country house, but without the usual formality. High backs rise above broad, dramatically flared arms, while shapely cabriole legs and carved feet give the substantial frames an unexpected elegance. The silhouette is generous, slightly eccentric, and exceptionally good from every angle.
We’ve newly upholstered the pair with a decidedly sporting hand: wool plaid wraps the backs and arms, while richly grained brown leather covers the seats. Matching leather welt traces the chairs’ unusual curves, finished with closely set brass nailheads. It’s an old-school combination of wool, leather, brass and beautifully patinated wood, handled without nostalgia.
Handsome and gutsy, they have enough Edwardian country-house pedigree to feel important, and just enough irreverence to keep them from behaving that way.
